O how they cling and wrangle, some who claim
For preacher and monk the honored name!
For, quarreling, each to his view they cling.
Such folk see only one side of a thing.

So oft in theologic wars,
The disputants, I ween,
Rail on in utter ignorance
Of what each other mean,
And prate about an Elephant
Not one of them has seen!

I don’t think there is a better way to describe the Democratic vs Republican wrangling on the economic stimulus plan.
Although, I am unable to make up my mind as to whether the leaders of this country are simply blind or have monochromatic vision compounded by exceedingly narrow minds.
Anyways,
In the end the Elephant will fall,
But on the way it will crush us all!
(Pardon the little rhyme and pun there)

It’s stubborness. The ones holding out are waiting to get some piece of legislation in that they want, or are simply holding out so that if it failes they can say “I opposed it from the beginning”. Neither of these strategies helps us.
I’m on the fence about how much I support this bill or hate it, but there is no doubting that I’m hating this session of Congress.
They have no other choice that to accept this plan. It will be better for everyone on this planet.
Yeah, socialism has done wonders everywhere else it’s been tried.

I am not in favor or against this package per se.. but I am just angry that the Republicans are now standing on the high podium and fighting this bill “for the American people.”
George Bush brought the country to the brink of economic disaster and they did nothing. Now, Obama is trying to get the house in order and they want to set up obstacles and protectionist measures.
This country is run by lobbyists and special interest groups. Until we wake up one day and form a unified “party” for the good of the American people, our arguing will only lead to our downfall.
I think with nearly any stimulus package the opposition has to accept it. By bickering back and forth about who gets what the situation just gets worse. They need to do something quickly to prevent further meltdown.
Actually it was Ronald Reagan, followed by Bill Clinton that brought the country to the brink of economic disaster and they did nothing.
I don’t think you can really blame it all one or two presidents . The problems existed throughout politics and in big companies. Until the shit hits the fan, it is tough for any politician to push through legislation that can address any of these problems. Sure past presidents might have noticed problems arising, but their hands would’ve been tied. It is just like the global warming issue. Nobody cared enough to do anything about it until it became very obvious that it is a huge problem.
I really liked the way you compared the Democratic vs Republican parties, I couldn’t agree more with this example!
Till then,

In English class we were given the story of the six blind men and the elephant (”The Blind Men and the Elephant - A Hindoo Fable”)… Anyways, we were asked to analyze the meaning of the poem and explain how it relates to the Crusades that took place in the Middle Ages. The problem is that I see no connection between the two and I really don’t understand.
