I won’t go in to the details of what prompted this topic since it might get a little too bitter for my own taste, but there is a serious need for reforms in the way the government looks at internet income.
To put it in a concise way, I am regretting that this blog ever made any money at all.
There is only one piece of advertisement remaining on this blog, but I am positively sure that after a few months/years of unsuccessfully negotiating with the organization involved, the issue will remain successfully unresolved (for the lack of any clear guidelines to either party) and the money will be eventually donated to charity …or something of the sort.
Then, I heard someone say something about how there are stupid laws and stuff. On that I have only one thing to say - laws are only as stupid as the people who make them.
Anyways, the point is that there is a need to take a second look at internet income regulations. In one way or other I am sure some other bloggers feel the same way.
Lastly, to put a closure to this incoherent rant I have another thing to say. This “equal opportunity employer” legal statement thing is a big load of crap. Here is an example:
” … to ensure equal employment opportunity without discrimination or harassment on the basis of race color, national origin, religion or creed, sex, age, disability, citizenship status, marital status, genetic predisposition or carrier status, sexual orientation, …”
Almost every one of those issues listed in the statement has an effect on employment opportunities. Sometimes we are just blind enough not to notice it.
Or may be I am just jaded because of not being able to blog for so long.

Hey man. Email me.
Wow, I had guessed something was up. I hope you get it all straightened out! And for what it’s worth, I certainly agree with you on all points above.
Wow. Sounds like you’ve hit a rough patch… had been hoping the lack of posts just meant you were enjoying life too much!
Wondering which government you’re talking about for the internet income bit… I can say that in Washington State the laws have been changed to make it really tough for small businesses to operate anywhere but in person: we are now supposed to charge the appropriate sales tax for the location the customer resides in!
But once we have the income, it’s still the same calculation for state taxes as any other business. Same as far as I know for federal taxes.
For the “equal opportunity” clause, there are other sections that are important, and the most important wording is “qualified individual.” A business is never required to hire or employ a person whose disability/ies make them unable to do the job. As an extreme example, a company that sponsors marathon runners would not be required to hire a quadriplegic to compete.
An owner might have to prove “undue hardship” if an argument can be made that accomodations would allow the employee to work… such as a two-person print shop that is up three flights of stairs in a warehouse wouldn’t need to install an elevator (undue hardship in terms of finances) for an applicant in a wheelchair who could otherwise do the job.
As a parent who struggles with getting reasonable accomodations for one of my children in the schools… it is very important that what he CAN do not be ignored because of the few things he can’t.
Like Henry said, email me…
What about blogging advertising-free until a point in the future (years maybe), that you can add advertising and monetize a huge readership?
Or perhaps you can pour more money into the blog than you make. So you collect income, but you buy advertising on other sites building your readership and not netting a penny. Some point in the future when things change and you can make money from the Internet again, you cancel your advertising on the other sites and bazooka - cash!
Wow, sounds harsh. I’m in the dark though! Just wanted to drop you a line!!
Hey, I was wondering where you got to. I don’t know what’s up, but I hope you get it sorted out soon. Let me know if I can help.
Golbguru,
Welcome back. Look forward to clarification of this post. Right now I’m guessing that you work for government agency with security clearance that requires full disclosure of all sources of income. Just wondering how close is my guess
Whatever the issue, good luck.
Very cryptic man, guessing it might have something to do with employer not allowing outside jobs or something as blog income is classified as self-employment?… Anyhow, good luck and hope you get some help.
Yeah, I’m curious about the situation too. Send me an email if I don’t send you one first.
Wow, I want to know what happened, even if it is too bitter for your taste. I mean, how else will the rest of us know what to watch out for? I expect to see many more calls for the ‘r’ word in the coming year. I’m sorry this happened to you. Hang in there.
Bitter is good, we like bitter. Sometimes it feels good to rant a little bit. I like to know what is goin on. I have a blog but I haven’t really made enough to have to worry about taxes and such. I hope everything works out ok.
Is this an issue with your employer or taxes owed on internet income? I’m unsure as well. I hope you’re able to posts on this issue soon, and the situation turns around for you.
What happened?
Please let us know the detail…What happened?

I do agree with your point of view, but there is something else when it comes to internet income regulations, and this is it that they only seems to concern to people living in the USA.
I have friends in other countries that are not even required to pay taxes for incomes derived from online activities.

Hey… i’ve been out of the blogging scene for a while, but am a bit saddened to catch up with all that’s been going on with you. I have no clue what you are talking about in this post and I hope you will elaborate a bit more in the future. Anyways, take care and don’t let things make you bitter. We all like the happy-go-lucky attitude you have displayed on this blog over the past year and hope you will return with the same sunny disposition soon
I am confused about this post. Are you refering to the fact that an advertiser tried to not pay you?
listen, online money are tax free, i dont think its possible to control them
I’d like to sell my hand-made jewelry through an internet site through which one can sell hand-made items for a small fee. The site is similar to E-bay. I can’t seem to find information concerning income tax (U.S.) regulations without dredging through IRS guidelines. Does one simply keep track of sales and file a 1099, or does the IRS even monitor this type of income? Any advice is greatly appreciated.
