Need Recommendations: Is This Look Better Than The Previous Look?

by golbguru on January 24, 2007

I tried to change a few things in my previous Urban Giraffe theme and it just wouldn’t come out right. Finally I gave up and decided to switch to a different template. After a few hours of searching and reading reviews, I have (for now) chosen the TripleK2 theme by John TP. Let me know if you like this one better than the old Giraffe. I will be glad if you guys could voice your concern over anything in particular that you don’t like about this new theme.
The immediate reason for the shift was that the Giraffe template was messing up a few things in Internet Explorer (expecially the post titles); and here is a distribution of readers on my blog showing a large number of IE users:

distribution

So got to do it for the IE users :).

The most obvious drawback is that this theme is not “fluid”, so if you are using 800 x 600 screen resolution, you will have to scroll to get all of it. But, according to sitemeter statistics, less than 2% of my visitors are using that screen resolution…hopefully they won’t mind the change so much.

Thanks Sun, I was hoping to get “Contentwise V2″…but doesn’t look like JohnTP is going to release it soon.

I’m not crazy about it, to be honest.

Having all three columns share a white background makes it hard to differentiate the text. And the text looks smaller in several places (although that may just be an illusion brought on by all the white), so it feels cramped.

If you could differentiate your side columns in some way and possibly bump the entry text size, I’d like it better.

Golbguru,

I like the TripleK2 template. Seems similar to your Blogger template, which I also liked.

Let me see… it certainly resembles something… something very familiar… oh right, this is my own blog!!!

Have only been reading your site for a week or so, and thanks for all the great content so far. I like the new look, but I’m not crazy about the pink separators between the three columns. I like the idea of the separators, just not the pink.

Golb,
I miss your brown giraffe template! I was actually taken aback when I landed here and thought it was somebody else’s blog! I’ll tell you what — the reason I prefer the original template was because it was unique. I hadn’t seen that template much before… but this template is a bit more ubiquitous. Now perhaps if you changed the colors/fonts up a little, it could differentiate it from the many other blogs I’ve seen with a similar template (I personally know 2 or 3 others I’ve subscribed to with the same face). Anyway, I’m curious what the problem was with the original template that forced you to change! Just my opinion — again I liked the original one since it was more “unique”.

okay it looks much better with those blue line dividers. It’s growing on me! :)

This is much better, IMHO. I like the tranquil color combination more than anything else :)

I enjoyed the giraffe theme, but the blue is growing on me!
