The Sunday Review #3

by golbguru on December 17, 2006

I am back after some eventful days. :) Some highlights of the last couple of days include: attending a graduation, test driving a 2007 Honda Civic, finalizing a new Civic deal for my brother, eating a lot of unhealthy food, and spending a ton of money. There are some interesting numbers that go with all these highlights…hopefully there will be a post tomorrow about it.

..And now, here is the 3rd Sunday review for all of you:

Retirement Calculator Evaluation Super Saver’s thoughts on retirement calculators. This is on lines of my previous post on Fidelity myPlan calculator and reaffirms the message: don’t trust the calculators blindly.
Wiser than a Scammer Dawn of Frugal for Life mentions a couple “work-at-home-and-earn-a-ton-of-money” schemes. Ah..the lure of earning money by doing nothing; we keep falling for it again and again and again….
HOWTO: Stop Buying Crap This is one of the best posts I have seen on personal finance blogs till now. Caps of StopBuyingCrap.com essentially summarizes the whole rationale behind his blog - Stop Buying Crap and how exactly to do it; I don’t know why, but I feel like stealing the title of his blog many times.
Occasionally good eBay sellers go bad Mighty Bargain Hunter reminds us of the pitfalls of using eBay for buying/selling stuff. Of course, bad stuff doesn’t happen always, but it helps to be aware of might-go-wrong stuff before shopping on eBay.
Trading Gift Cards: My Chat with Golbguru Wait a minute…did I see “Golbguru” somewhere in the title :). The Frugal Duchess aka Sharon Harvey of the Miami Herald posts some comments from me about trading gift cards! Thanks to Sharon, a mention of the original article also made it to the print version of the newspaper.
Suze Orman doesn’t think anyone can afford anything Kira of Penny Foolish makes an interesting comment on the the Suze Orman show. On this post, Dimes of Dimes to Dollar posted a comment that says “I want to write in to her and ask if I can afford to have a baby….”. It will be interesting to see what Orman will say about that :)
Couples Fighting Over Money LAmoneyguy reponds to an SOS from a reader who says (among other things) “….PLEASE HELP! I know that many marriages end because of money issues, and I don’t want that to be us…”

GolbGuru,

I can see travel isn’t slowing down your posting too much:-) Thanks for including My Wealth Builder in the Sunday Review. Also, congratulations on the mention in the Miami Herald.

mbhunter: you are welcome.

Super Saver: blogging is addictive man…just can’t be at peace unless I put in at least a few words every now and then.

After further watching, I’m sure Suze would totally approve a baby. It goes with her mantra of “People first, then money, then things.” She heartily supports spending money to further relationships, and since we’re better off than a lot of people having babies, she’d almost certainly say “You go, girlfriend!”
