Old Camera New Camera

Finally gave in and bought a Canon Powershot S2 IS digital camera. Emptied my wallet by a cool $283 and change. After giving a thought to Canon S3 IS, I decided it was not worth the additional $73. The only extra stuff in the S3 IS that its black (more professional camera type look), have an additional megapixel resolution and some more shooting modes. Here is how it looks:

And now I can retire my old Kodak CX6230 which has been of great service for the last three years. Here is a picture of the old Kodak:

Also got a 4GB SD card ($90 !) for the S2 IS and now it has enough memory to hold about 4 movies of 8 minutes each!

Hi I’m actually considering getting a CX6230 very cheaply from my friend since I only take occasional snappies and the old digital cam has broken.
One thing that I absolutely hated on the old cam was the cycle time/shot-to-shot, ie. the amount of time from pushing the switch to it finishing taking the picture without blurring. This has proven very hard to Google for me compared to other cams, and a result has led me here.

If you manage to see this comment, could you give some quick feedback on it?

Dillion,
My experience with CX6230 was pleasant. In fact, the image quality was exceptionally good. Works very well in normal daylight, but has focussing problems in less light (night time stuff). Also, the flash is not very powerful, so it’s not really a night-time camera at all. Other than these issues, it has given me no problems in the last three years. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the feedback. Any feedback on the shot-to-shot time? or is it all a distant memory with your new Powershot S2 (very nice btw!).

In actual fact the other camera I can get cheaply is the Powershot A20. From what I’ve seen (I’m an amateur, so not much, haha), it’s equal/close enough to the CX6230 - the difference being all the shot/lag timings have been easy to find for the A20, but not the CX6230.

Hope I’m not distracting you from anything important =).

Oh so you are looking at at a Canon as an option :). I think Powershot A20 is a better camera than Kodak CX6320 (just a personal opinion).

About shot-to-shot time, yes there is a bit of a delay between clicks…but it is not usually irritating (it was irritating when we went to sea-world..with dolphins flying all over the place before you can blink.). There is another delay in CX6230 and that is when the camera boots up..it is really slow in this department.

Check this site for some excellent digital camera reviews. I am not sure if the Kodak is there but Canon A20 is certainly there.

It is funny how we can obsess over which camera to get…do we get what looks cool or does what we want? I recently went from a 2 megapixel camera (point and shoot) to a 6 megapixel slr digital camera (nikkon) the pleasure set me back $500 (second hand) but I find it is worth every single cent I spent! Have fun with the camera and take lots of shot’s I try and take one picture a day.
