Riding the Personal Finance Bandwagon

by golbguru on September 1, 2006

I was never a financially active animal in the past, at least not till I stumbled across Flexo’s Consumerism Commentary a few weeks ago. However, since then I have been taking a serious stock of my financial situation and I should say this…It really feels good man. After reading a lot of inspiring posts from a number of personal finance blogs, I finally strated turning ideas into action. Here is a list some of the things I did after first stumbling across Flexo’s blog. The inspiration behind each action is mentioned in brackets alongside.

1. Opened an HSBC Direct account (Consumerism Commentary , Stop Buying Crap)
2. Opened an Yodlee account (Stop Buying Crap). Love it so far.
3. Applied for a Citi Professional Card (Blueprint for Financial Prosperity, My Money Blog) and set myself up for a five figure 0% balance transfer. Not really worried about Suspicious Activity Report (SAR).
4. Opened an Google AdSense account (Problogger) {Not really PF stuff here}; bulk of the inspiration came from observing that many PF bloggers have Google Ads on their blogs.
5. Opened two Sharebuilder accounts (Consumerism Commentary). Read more about this here.
6. Applied for Discover Platinum Sea Life Card (My Money Blog)

Thanks to all the PF bloggers for putting up informative and inspiring stuff.

So far things are going good, with no issues and it has been quite a learning experience. This flurry of activities is not going to change my Net Worth anytime soon, but I am sure things will improve down the line.

Next, I intend to learn more about investing and trading stocks. But the rate at which things are going, it may take me a long time to dive into these.
